On March 12, American Friends Service Committee released a report based on their listening sessions at an event at the KCMO Health Department to stimulate more debate and dialogue about budget and revenue policy and to organize community action. They began the project focusing on the Federal budget but as they held listening sessions, they soon saw that the same destructive austerity / budget cutting directive is functioning at the state and local levels. This next stage of the project is to share what was heard and to listen in public forums to the experiences of those attending. AFSC does this to empower and mobilize more and more community members to step up, tell their story and work to make budget, revenue and public policy serve community needs rather than only those of the rich and powerful.

On news of the death of Danny Schechter, investigative journalist Greg Palast wrote:
“Known for bringing the world the story of Nelson Mandela, Danny gave up cushy jobs at ABC and CNN, the big bucks and a steady flow of mainstream awards to blow the whistle on the degradation of American news. Danny exposed what he called the “news goo” of talking hair-dos—denouncing them as repeaters, not reporters. One of his searing books told it all in the title: “The More You Watch, the Less You Know.””
This week on a very special installment of Tell Somebody, Tom Klammer speaks with Palast about the life and times of Danny Schechter.

“Insurgent,” the second installment in the “Divergent” series, “The Gunman,” a Sean Penn action flick and “Do You Believe?,” a faith-based drama are up for Russ’ inspection.

Susan and Russ take on “Run All Night,” Susan and Russ take on Liam Neeson’s latest action thriller.

Last week, the Missouri Trade Justice Coalition hosted a forum called The Transpacific Partnership: Another Corporate Power Grab.
