Camps For Kids to hold its annual Firefly Gala

Camps For Kids (www.campsforkids.org) will hold its annual Firefly Gala and Silent and Live Auction, Friday, October 12, 2012, from 7 to 11 PM at Club 1000, on the corner of 10th Street and Broadway in the historic Quality Hill District of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The event will celebrate the 2012 Camping Season during which Camps For Kids helped support 24 area summer camps providing more than 6,000 summer camp scholarships for children with disabilities or in financial need.

Camps For Kids, a Kansas City area non-profit organization assisting in the support of 24 summer camps, provided more than 6,000 scholarships for kids with disabilities or in financial need in the summer of 2012.

Catering by Shawn, and the music of Kyle Robey, the KC Mobile DJ, will ensure an enjoyable evening. Admission to the event is $75 per person, with sponsorships available from $250 to $5,000.

Varied and valuable silent auction items and a special live auction by the Nigro Brothers will provide additional excitement and great fun to the evening.

Camps For Kids was founded in 1981 by Marjorie Powell Allen and other community leaders. The company was “re-tooled” in 2006 and remodeled after the Summer Dreams program which continues to be administered by The Detroit Free Press in Detroit, Michigan and now serves more than 50 camps each year through the matching efforts of the Skillman and the Knight Foundations. It was through major efforts of the Hall Foundation that this program was brought to Kansas City, and the Hall Family
Foundation continues to be among the largest supporters of the Camps For Kids Campaign (which increased this non-profit’s reach from 7 camps in 2005 to 25 camps in 2012.)

The Camps For Kids Campaign and its funders take pride in helping to provide the unique joy and experience that only summer camp can give. Since 2006, Camps For Kids has raised close to $2 million in campership support to more than 30,000 children and youth in need and/or with disabilities in the Kansas City area.
