90.1FM KKFI is proud to announce that, as of September 23rd 2014, we are a voter registration location for Kansas City, MO.  To my knowledge we are the first broadcast station in Kansas City, MO to be a voter registration location.

September 23rd is National Voter Registration Day so we chose that as a kickoff to what will be a continuing part of our mission to help spread information out about things that matter.  We at 90.1FM are here to serve the community and this is but one way we can do that.  This is the beginning of what will no doubt be a long standing tradition here at our community radio station.

We have had staff and volunteers trained by Ted Growney of the Kansas City Election Board.  Ted is a more than 20 year veteran of the election board and was very informative.  More than 15 people received training on Sept 11, 2014 right here at the 90.1FM KKFI Studios.  We will have registrars here to register voters that live in both Kansas City MO and Jackson County.

IMPORTANT EXCEPTION: If you live in any other county than Jackson or any other city than Kansas City, we will not be able to register you to vote.  We will have voter applications for the surrounding area to hand out for citizens to mail in or deliver to the proper election board.

Blues Kitchen 15th Anniversary BASH!!! /w Mary Bridget Davies

Junebug is celebrating his 15th Anniversary of The Blues Kitchen on 90.1FM KKFI.
He has called up some of the very best talent in the country to put a fantastic bash!

Junebug would like to say, “I enjoy spreading the message of the blues. I also like spinning my hillbilly stories from my time growing up in Higginsville. It’s been the same since the beginning when Chuck (Pisano) and I started, ‘I’m a little country and he’s a little rock and roll. We meet in the middle for the blues and The Blues Kitchen.”
A little about the Artists performing:

 Mary Bridget Davies
Tony Award®-nominated singer MARY BRIDGET DAVIES’ journey began in her hometown of Cleveland, OH in 2001 when she first started singing in local bands, and she hasn’t slowed down since.
Upon gaining local acclaim for her work in various rock bands, she was asked to sit in with Big Brother & The Holding Company (Janis Joplin’s original band, with whom she would later tour) as well as legendary blues guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr. Her travels have taken her all around the world, including a run on Broadway in “A Night With Janis Joplin,” for which she received her Tony® nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.”

Katy Guillen and the girlsKaty Guillen & The Girls
Pitch Award Winners and all around great blues musicians Katy & The Girls have been blowing peoples minds for years now. They just released a self-titled Album that is sure to keep the momentum on the rise.

“In the case of Katy Guillen and the Girls, their recently-released EP …and then there were three offers a trio of songs that showcases a trio of ladies who have firmly grasped the nuances of rock, blues, soul, and groove–and by “firmly grasped,” I mean they make it clear from the outset that they know their stuff.” – Michael Byars, The Deli Magazine – Kansas City

FFCCFour Fried Chickens & A Coke
We are a 12-piece band, complete with three vocalists and seven horns. We play cuts from the Blues Brothers and the Commitments soundtracks, James Brown, Otis Redding, Ike and Tina Turner, Royal Crown Review, Chicago, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray Vaughn, our own original songs, and many more…
We formed in April of 1997, and have been performing regularly at events and clubs in the Kansas City area.

June Bug & porchJunebug & The Porchlights
The Best Dress Up Band in the World!

Junebug and The Porchlights are a blues band with a comedy problem.  Striving for Mediocrity has been the main goal of the band for quite sometime and they hope to attain that level by 2015. Fresh off their Mississippi tour which included Morgan Freeman’s bar Ground Zero and the Juke Joint chapel, the Porchlights are glad to be home playing prestigious places such as, the Daily Limit Bar located in the Red Bridge Shopping Center and the Corder Missouri Beer Garden.  Making fun of themselves before they make fun of you, that’s Junebug and the Porchlights.

Opening act -She’s A Keeper

Since forming in 1998, The Elders have set the music scene on its ear, thanks to a skillful blend of American roots rock and amped-up Celtic folk; a cross-pollination of elements that is high-octane and progressive, yet rooted in tradition.

Shes a keeper FBSHE’S A KEEPER
She’s a Keeper is a five-piece ensemble based in Kansas City. Most of the members grew up together and that naturally shines through in their music and live performances. Their sound is raw & unaffected; their stage presence pleasingly unpretentious.

We at 90.1FM KKFI are honoured to work with great artists and are humbled that they are willing to give of themselves to help us in our mission.

See you at the show!

Big News!

Record Label Showcases this year for the first time.  We welcome The Record Machine and Money Wolf Music to curate the stages at Czar and Collection.

We at 90.1 & CMF try to cover as many genres as we can with this event to give a cross section of what is going on in the KC Music community on this very special September weekend.

As in the past you can get a wristband for the entire festival or just pay a cover to each venue if you just want to go there.

90.1 DJ’s will be MC’s for each stage and will be engaging the music community as a whole.

90.1 will be recording some of the stages for broadcast at a later time.

Monthly KKFI Programming Committee Meeting

The Programming Committee provides oversight of the station’s programming and schedule, its quality, and fulfillment of our mission.

A Programmer is a person with regular and ongoing responsibility for presentation of a radio show aired on KKFI 90.1 FM and who contributes on a regular basis (or fill-in basis) to the content of a radio show, including but not limited to producers, engineers, announcers, disc jockeys and writers.

Any person who wishes to become a Programmer must agree to contribute regular and reliable volunteer work to the corporation (currently four hours of which at least two must be non-show hours), and have read and agree to support our Mission and Philosophy Statements. Regular service is defined as performing a minimum number of hours, as recommended by the Programming Committee and approved by the Board, of volunteer service to the corporation each month for a minimum of six months.
