american-routesBeginning Wednesday, October 15th, the award winning music program American Routes, returns to KC radio as 90.1 FM KKFI will begin running the show from 7:30 to 9:30 every Wednesday night.

Station Manager Barry Lee helped facilitate the acquisition of this show with assistance of the show’s producers.  He reports, “Our default here at KKFI is local programming, obviously, but I can’t recall any other time in the station’s history when the public came to us in such large numbers requesting we broadcast a syndicated show. American Routes has a long and storied history and if the community will support the show, we will be glad to add it to our permanent schedule.  This new show does not displace any local programming, because we swapped out another syndicated program in its place.”

Hosted by Nick Spitzer, American Routes has been broadcast nationally for over 16 years.  It received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to help fund the show. It seeks to educate and entertain its audiences with weekly explorations of the various kinds of American roots music as well as interviews and documentary features to outline the history of a performer or a musical genre.  It is currently broadcast on over 195 radio stations across the country with over 400,000 listeners.
