Sharon Lockhart will receive the Excellence in Media award from the Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus. Sharon is producer and co-host of Every Woman airing live on KKFI 90.1 FM Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

The Excellence in Media award is in recognition of Sharon’s work for women’s health and welfare and for giving local women a voice on Every Woman. Sharon began as a volunteer at KKFI in 1995 and was soon co-hosting Working Woman, which evolved into Every Woman.

EVERY WOMAN is a  ‘womanist’ show about women making a difference and the men by their side.  As 52% of eligible US voters and 50% of the world’s population, women are not a special interest group and EVERY WOMAN should VOTE and WORK toward 50/50 participation in the social, political and economic arenas.

In addition to her 17 years as a KKFI volunteer, Sharon is an advocate and activist for peace and social justice, actively supporting American Friends Service Committee;  the Gray Panthers of Mid-Missouri and Kansas; the Johnson/Wyandotte Counties chapter of  National Organization for Women; OWL-the Voice of Mid-Life and Older Women; and Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus. Sharon has a 31-year career as a financial advisor and is a Certified Financial Planner Professional and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst.  Her Communiversity classes, “A Man Is Not a Financial Plan” and “Cinderella, Don’t Get Burned Tending the Home Fires” are designed to help women gain the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their financial lives.

Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus is an affiliate of the National  Women’s Political Caucus, a multicultural, grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in politics and creating a power base designed to achieve equality for all women.

The award will be presented September 27, 2012 at the 22nd annual Torch Dinner hosted by Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus. Proceeds go toward electing women. For more information about GKCWPC, Torch Dinner awardees or to attend, go to www.gkcwpc.org.
