Does the Sunshine Law Apply to MO Drug Task Forces?

Show Me Cannabis and the Freedom Center of Missouri have filed a lawsuit against numerous drug task forces in the state, claiming they are not complying with the state’s open records law and are intentionally withholding information. Show-Me Cannabis, has filed the suit against task forces in St. Louis and Kansas City, as well as one in mid-Missouri. One of the concerns of the group is that these task forces are devoting more time to the lucrative Cannabis trade and not spending enough effort on the more destructive hard drugs like heroin and methamphetamine. They are not looking for information about ongoing investigations but rather where they are spending their money and human resources as well as the sources of income for the task forces.

Host Craig Lubow will be talking with Dave Roland, the Director of Litigation and co-founder of the Freedom Center of Missouri about the law suit, why they brought it and what they hope to learn. Dave Roland is the Director of Litigation and co-founder of the Freedom Center of Missouri; he also serves as the Secretary for the Freedom Center’s Board of Directors. Dave spent more than three years in the nation’s capital as an attorney with the Institute for Justice, where he litigated school choice, economic liberty, and property rights cases in state and federal courts.

Calendar 5-18-2015

In March, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America released a new data visualization tool, The Wait We Carry, to help more Americans understand that VA patients are individuals that deserve to receive the high-quality care they’ve earned through their military service. So far, 2,025 veterans from all wars shared their stories on the site. If you want to see the status of the veterans who have submitted so far or want to submit your own story go to the website – http://www.thewaitwecarry.org/#state/MO
Recently, Bob McDonald, Secretary of Veterans Affairs wrote a letter thanking the Veterans who had responded and encouraging others to tell their stories as well. The VA hopes to use the information to improve service. If you would like for the VA to follow up with you, please email them at [email protected] with the subject line “The Wait We Carry.” Their customer service specialists will connect with you to get the information they need to reach out and address your issues.
