This month’s book for the Sandra Moran Alphabet Soup Radio Book Club is Backcast by Ann McMan, which has been described as Fried Green Tomatoes meets The Big Chill by way of A River Runs Through It. Panelists Ann McMan, Michelle Pond, Bev Prescott, and Jeff Vincent join host Elizabeth Andersen for a good-humored yet serious discussion of this wonderful novel.

This bonus book club show featured four authors. Robin Wayne Bailey is a renowned novelist, short story writer, poet and editor who lives in the Kansas City area. Host Elizabeth Andersen talks to Robin about past and future projects. Karen Richard is a labor contract negotiator by day and author by night. Her work brought her to town recently, and Elizabeth interviewed her as well as Kansas City authors Kris Bryant and KB Draper.

The book is Michael Chabon’s “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” — a sweeping story of comic books, golems, escape, and a gay love story. Winner of numerous awards, including the Pulitzer. Substitute host Philip Hooser leads the discussion on Sandra Moran Alphabet Soup Radio Book Club with guests David F. Whitner and Brent Husher. David is an artisan ToastMaster and Brent is a Front-Running librarian of note, while Philip is a comic-book fan.
