16, Bisexual, and Transgender

He courageously confronted a nun in his Catholic school who told him that gay people are going to hell, then broke down afterward. He got the puberty he didn’t want and didn’t get the one he wanted. Looking in the mirror can be a surreal experience. He’s eager to start hormone therapy, but his parents, though supportive of his desire to transition, want him to wait a little longer.

Elliot is a 16 year old boy who’s transgender and bisexual. He says that he accepted his sexuality a long time ago, but his understanding of his gender is more recent. On this episode, Elliot, a participant in OutCasting’s NYC Bureau, talks about his quest to become a more complete and authentic person.

OutCasting’s NYC Bureau is a collaboration between OutCasting and the Hetrick-Martin Institute. This is our debut episode from the NYC Bureau. The announcements in this program were recorded by Kayl, a participant at our Michigan State University Bureau, with production assistance from Impact89fm, WDBM East Lansing, and by Lauren, a participant in our home studio in Westchester County, New York.
