50th Anniversary of the Death of a Country Music Icon…A Tasty Tribute to Virginia Patterson Hensley (aka) Patsy Cline

On March 3, 1963, Patsy Cline performed at a benefit for the family of DJ “Cactus” Jack McCall at our very own Memorial Hall here in Kansas City, Kansas.  Patsy was ill with the flu at the time but managed to perform 3 shows that day. Unable to fly out the next day because her private aircraft was fogged in at the Fairfax Airport, Patsy’s group, which included Country Music notables Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas, took off on March 5, 1963. After two stops for refueling and bad weather, the plane ultimately crashed 90 miles short of their destination in Tennessee killing all aboard.  Join Diana Linn for a walk down memory lane honoring Patsy and other artists on the bill for her last show….Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas, George Jones, Dottie West and Billy Walker. We’ll also hear from k.d. lang, Janis Martin, and other artists who have helped keep Patsy’s memory alive.  Enjoy the links!
