The Uncouth + Chico Sierra + American Slim

At 10:30, Mark talks with Cody Blanchard, CJ Wilson, Todd Rainey, and Steve Gardels, of the KC based, modern American Oi! band, The Uncouth. Last year The Uncouth released their first 7”, “KC United” as part of the Too Much Rock Single Series. The Uncouth is now releasing their debut EP of six songs, Jonesy’s War, available on vinyl and digital download through Teenage Heart Distro. The Uncouth play a Record Release Show at Josey Records, on Friday, August 12, with Plug Uglies, and The People’s Punk Band. The Uncouth play a Record Release Show at recordBar, on Saturday, August 27, with Red Kate.

At 11:00 artist, poet, musician, Chico Sierra joins us to discuss his first book of poems, Air Becomes Glass, though the POP POETRY series from Spartan Press & Prospero’s Books. Chico Sierra grew up in El Paso, Texas and began crossing borders, back and forth between Mexico and the United States. Chico learned that oftentimes boarders are blurry. Chico has has spent time living in Mexico, Canada, Germany and the Philippines. The cultures that Chico experienced in these countries, as well as the theme of blurring borders can be found in Chico’s art, poetry and music. The Chico Sierra – POP Poetry book release will be Saturday, August 27, at 7:00 pm at Prospero’s Books, 1800 W 39th St, KCMO.

At 11:30 Mark talks with Nathan Jurries, Patrick Newland, Jacob Newland, and Mikala Petillo of the Kansas City based, 4-piece band, American Slim, formed March 1, 2012. American Slim released their self titled EP, on December 18, 2015. American Slim play the Brown Bag Concert Series in Downtown Topeka, Kansas, on Wednesday, August 10, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. American Slim play Davey’s Uptown, Saturday, August 20, at 7:00 pm with Ivory Black and The Fade.
