WINGS: Women's International News Gathering Service is an all-woman independent radio production company that produces and distributes news and current affairs programs by and about women around the world.
At a panel on Women and Climate Change at the American Public Health Association’s 2017 conference, women professionals with disaster experience gave strong advice for improving disaster response, including childcare, elder care, protections against violence, and more.
Dr. Dorothy Riddle has a PhD in clinical psychology. She has lived, worked and taught in 86 countries, with a focus on the double burden on women who must care for themselves and their dependents. Her talk was titled, Women as natural disasters unseen victims. Jacqueline Patterson is the Director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Program. Since 2007 Patterson has served as coordinator & co-founder of Women of Color United. She spoke on “Race and Gender Spell Double Jeopardy in Disasters for Women of Color.” Also mentioned: Gloria Giarratano, a professor of nursing at Louisiana State University, who spoke about women pregnant during the recovery from hurricane Katrina.
