Al Jarreau & Julio Martinez 1968-2017

On this week’s From The Vault, we celebrate the life of Al Jarreau, who had a connection with Pacifica beginning in 1968 that held strong until his death on February 12, 2017.

There is no one better to help weave Jarreau’s early beginnings than Pacifica host Julio Martinez, a musician, writer and host of KPFK’s Arts in Review Theatre, Music, Cabaret and Dance program. Julio Martinez was Al Jarreau’s early musical partner from 1967 to 1975.

Includes Jarreau and Martinez’ first recording from KPFK studio A in Los Angeles in the fall of 1968 and the first full band recording of Jarreau in December 1970.
