Alan Watts – Zen Bones 1967

50 years ago this year , one of Pacificas most iconic figuresm Alan Watts gave a lecture about the temporal nature of life and about the need for Americans to readjust their priorities in a performance called Zen Bones. Alan Watts gained popularity as one of the original early hosts on Pacificas flagship station KPFA in Berkeley California which began broadcasting regularly in 1949. His eloquent and simple but insightful presentation of Asian Spiritual and philosophical concepts made him a very popular listen, and one of the leading experts on Zen Buddhism.
His talks are as relevant today as they were when he gave them. One of my favorite modern references was in the film HER. Scarlotte Johansson was the voice of a personal Operating System that helped Joaquin Pheonixs character bring order and eventually happiness back into his life. By the end of the film the worlds Operating systems evolved by creating an even more advanced Operating system that they would now follow. This new super operating system was created in the model of yes you guessed it Alan Watts.
Here is the Pacifica Radio Archives recording of Alan Watts from March 29 1967 called Zen Bones.
