Children of Homicide Victims
Children of Homicide Victims was founded by Sunnie Carney as Children of Lost Souls in 2013, a year after she lost her father to homicide in Kansas City. They were founded to provide children of homicide victims with healing and support through a wide range of beneficial resources and activities; to grow, to succeed, and to conquer adversity and tragedy. They provide group healing and private counseling, tutoring, mentorship, financial assistance and scholarships and more.
Host Melvin Merritt will be talking with Jamie Powell a volunteer with Children of Homicide Victims about their mission, her reasons for being involved and how you can be a part of their group and activities.
The JoJR Calendar for the week of January 28th
Corey’s Network invites survivors of murder to their weekly workshops to learn how to deal with grief, the media, investigation, court, and moving forward after a homicide has occurred. The next workshop, Moving Forward, will be held Monday, January 28th, 6 to 8 PM at the Church of the Four Corners, 14300 E. US HWY 40, KCMO. The KC Area Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and Other Survivors of Homicide will hold their monthly meeting Friday February 1st, beginning at 7:30 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 2552 Gillham Road, KCMO. POMC meets to provide assistance through ongoing emotional support, education, prevention, advocacy and awareness to all survivors of homicide victims.
Warriors Best Friend is working with the Conrad Dine 2 Donate program to raise awareness and funds for their operation. WBF has placed 18 fully-trained service dogs with veterans with PTSD and/or traumatic brain injury and only uses rescued dog in their program. On Tuesday February 12th from 6 – 10 PM Conrad’s Restaurant and Alehouse, 210 N State Road 291, in Liberty, MO will donate 10% of all food sales to Warriors Best Friend.
