Steven Curtis-EPIC Clay Studio was created in 2011 by a collaboration between Accessible Arts and Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC). Accessible Arts is a Kansas 501 (c) (3) not- for-profit whose mission is: To foster creativity and provide educational opportunities for people with disabilities while hosting an inclusive environment for all to ENGAGE, EXPLORE, and ENJOY the ARTS. CHWC is a Kansas 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit community development corporation that focuses on revitalizing KCK by building new homes while renovating existing homes, and businesses, so as to revive and beautify the neighborhoods.

Brian Hearn-The Kansas City Collection IV (KCC IV) proudly announces the participating artists and businesses that will launch the 2016-17 Collection on Tuesday, June 28, at the global design practice Populous. “We’re pleased to feature The Kansas City Collection in our new home at 4800 Main,” said Populous Managing Director Earl Santee. “Our designs are visible across the globe but our creative roots are here in Kansas City and it’s gratifying to showcase area talent.”

Travis Pratt-Casey Hannan-Travis Pratt is an artist and gallery director for the Bunker Center for the Arts, located at 1014 E. 19th St. KCMO, that houses a gallery with studios and multiple exhibition spaces. Casey Hannan lives and writes in Kansas City. His work has appeared in American Short Fiction, Annalemma, SmokeLong Quarterly, and elsewhere. His story, “Other Sons,” was selected by Wigleaf as one of the top 50 online short fictions published in 2011. His first book of stories, Mother Ghost, is now available from Tiny Hardcore Press. His opening takes place at The Bunker Center for the Arts July 8th 5:30-10:00 with a reading at 6:30pm.

Micheal Schonoff KCAI Crossroads Gallery:Center for Contemporary Practice-In 2015, Margaret Silva; alumna, former board member, and longtime supporter of the Kansas City Art Institute, generously gifted 1819 Grand Boulevard, the building that housed Grand Arts for 20 years, to KCAI. The facilities include two galleries, a large cross-disciplinary studio and an artist-in-residence apartment. Renamed KCAI Crossroads Gallery Center for Contemporary Practice, the space provides an exciting opportunity for the college to be a part of the popular Crossroads Arts District.

KCAI Crossroads Gallery’s summer exhibition, “The Position We’re In”, featuring the work of Hamish Fulton, Kent Monkman and Guido van der Werve, opens July 1 and runs through September 2. It explores place and body through a variety of media. Each artist’s work invites viewers to consider political ramifications, empathize with a similar experience, and examine anomalous contexts. The exhibit opening is July 1 from 6-8 PM. Hours will be Tuesday through Friday from noon – 5 PM; 6 – 8 PM on First Fridays in June, July and August; and Saturdays by appointment.
We envision programs that expand the academic curriculum by offering students a cooperative and cross-disciplinary learning environment. The site will also be the location for a new KCAI artist-in-residence program. Director Michael Schonhoff will guide the site’s programs, while a faculty group, the Center for Contemporary Practice Committee, will build the curricula for this location.
