ARTSPEAK RADIO presents, Jennifer Chenowith, Jane Gotch, Dan Frueh, & Ken Bini

At noon, Maria talks with artist Jennifer Chenowith from Austin. Then at 12:15, dancer/choreographer Jane Gotch joins us in the studio live to talk about, “Let It Fall.”

Dan Frueh, photographer/gallery owner of the Trap Gallery and painter Ken Bini joins Maria in the last half of the program.

JENNIFER CHENOWITH is a visual artist and entrepreneur. She is the principal of Fisterra Studio, creating contemporary abstract painting and sculpture.

Using community input to map emotional experiences of residents of Austin, Chenoweth created a mixed-media installation called the “Hedonic Map of Austin”, which she exhibited at Co-Lab Projects in 2013 and at The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Psychology in 2014. Chenoweth is on a team with the City of Austin, Go Collaborative, Austin Creative Alliance, and Public City as a recipient for a national ArtPlace grant, “Drawing Lines”. In 2010, she founded a nonprofit, GenerousArt.org, to empower artists and sustain community, teaching professional development workshops, and by producing fundraisers and exhibitions.

KEN BINI-My current work explores the expressive potential of the human figure in various scenarios, narratives and the dynamic created between the figure and ground relationship. I generate these images through a rhythm of mark making and reductive processes. Figures and figure groups emerge from a continual layering of paint and glazes and the scraping and scratching into the surface reveal, embellish and enhance the image. By cutting and working into these accumulated layers of pigment, I am able to create a surface that is complex and visually unpredictable. In each piece, I strive to connect with and crystallize the tension and mystery of contemporary life. Through experimentation, acceptance of change and process driven image making, I embrace the potential of the unexpected in the emerging picture.
