ARTSPEAK RADIO presents, Sarah A. Chavez, Miguel M. Morales, Making Movies, & Kansas City Chalk and Walk with Lottie Halpern

In the first half of the program, Maria welcomes writers Sarah A. Chavez and Miguel M. Morales.

Sarah A. Chavez, a mestiza born and raised in the California Central Valley, is the author of the chapbook, All Day, Talking (Dancing Girl Press, 2014). She holds a PhD in English with a focus in poetry and Ethnic Studies from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Her work can be found or is forthcoming in North Dakota Quarterly, Stirring: A Literary Collective, Spoon River Poetry Review, The Acentos Review, & Luna Luna Magazine, among others. Her manuscript, This, Like So Much, was an Honorable Mention for the Quercus Review Press Poetry Book Contest. A selection from her chapbook manuscript All Day, Talking won the Susan Atefat Peckham Fellowship. She is a proud member of the Macondo Writers Workshop. www.sarahachavez.com

Miguel M. Morales grew up in Texas working as a migrant & seasonal farmworker. He currently serves as the president of the Latino Writers Collective. Miguel is a Lambda Literary Fellow studying under Alex Sanchez and Malindo Lo. He also studied under Joy Castro at the Macondo Workshop. As a journalist, Miguel earned numerous awards including the Society of Professional Journalists’ First Amendment Award.

This year’s lineup features musicians who will be filling the day with not-to-miss performances in a wide variety of musical styles, certain to provide entertainment for all tastes.

Founder/Executive Director and President, Lottie Halpern with the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival talks about the festival. A true community collaboration in the arts, the 8th annual Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival, a multi-cultural, community wide, street painting festival, will turn Crown Center Square into a vibrant outdoor gallery, Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th. Festivities will take place from 11:00am to 7:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday.
The Festival has also secured nationally and internationally known 3D and traditional master chalk muralists Jennifer Chaparro, Ever Galvez, Hector Diaz and Ken Mullen, “The Chalk Guys”, Nate Baranowski, and Anat Ronen. 2015 will also introduce vertical murals.
