Brian Williams Development Director Folly Theater-
The Metzler-Copaken Initiative to expand the performing arts at the Folly Theater was established by Bunni and Paul Copaken to celebrate the life and legacy of their close friend, C. Stephen Metzler. Steve was a passionate advocate for the arts, and was instrumental in the revitalization of the Folly Theater.
The Initiative supports small and mid-sized arts organizations by providing an opportunity to elevate their public profile, expand their audience, develop and showcase the talents of their artists, enhance the production values of their work, and build a stronger organizational future through performances in the historic Folly Theater. Up to four grants will be awarded each year for an amount not to exceed the lesser of 75% of the Folly rental costs (including theater rental, labor, and equipment rental charges), or $8,000. The combined total amount of the grants will be $24,000 for each of the first three years.
For consideration of a grant under the METZLER – COPAKEN INITIATIVE at the Folly Theater, an organization should submit a proposal and all required documents.

Ralph Tomlinson, Adult Services Librarian Olathe Public Library-
Tuesday Tunes with Betse — now in its second year, started in June 2014; Betse Ellis, one of the founders of The Wilders, currently playing with Clarke Wyatt as Betse & Clarke, leads an acoustic jam, starting at 6:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month. Clarke usually comes to the jam, and so does Brett Hodges, of the No Mountain String Band. Hodges played with the award-winning Last Kansas Exit in the 1970s.

Third Thursday Tunes are sometimes scheduled on other dates based on the band’s availability.

Tuesday, Aug. 16 — Kevin Roth, dulcimer; Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary co-produced his recent album, “Awakenings.” Roth also sings the theme song to the PBS show, Shining Time Station, which features Thomas the Tank engine.
Friday, Sept. 2 — Rock & Read with Larry Kirwan, founder of Black 47; hopefully an opening event for our new, temporary space.
Tuesday, Sept. 20 — Wyoming Voeks, Cody Wyoming, of the Philistines and the PedalJets, and guitarist Eric Voeks, a solo artist.
Friday, Oct. 21 (after hours) — “If I had a song: Remembering Pete Seeger” with Spook Handy, who played more than 50 shows with Pete from 2003-2013.
Tuesday, Nov. 15 — Julian Davis & the Hayburners, who recently appeared on America’s Got Talent. Julian is from Pittsburg, KS. 15 years old.
Tuesday, Feb. 14 — Greenbank, from Thunder Bay, ON, for a special Valentine’s Day show
Monday, Feb. 20 — Ukulele workshops/concert with James Hill, one of the world’s best ukulele players.

Andi Paloutzian, Story Center Program Manager Woodneath Library- Mid-Continent Public Library in partnership with Kansas City Public Television (KCPT) will present the documentary film, Our City Divided. Examining violent crime in Kansas City’s segregated community east of Troost Ave., the film shines a spotlight on the KC No Violence Alliance’s attempts to prevent murders with a collaborative policing approach and explores whether enough is being done to tackle entrenched social conditions that foster violent crime.
