J. Ashley Miller-Echosis
Echosis is a new feature length operatic work, composed by J. Ashley Miller and performed by the Atemporchestra in late 2016. This production will use the Narcissus mythos as a framework to explore contemporary cultural practices of self-love, self-lust, and the internalization of the muse. The live production will be staged in the Heim building in Kansas City’s East Bottoms and will be filmed to create a feature length “live” film. The Inspiration Grant Funding would go directly towards the technology required to generate the real-time 3D version of Narcisuss, an HD facial recognition camera, facial tracking software, and a dedicated computer to run the system.

Echosis is a brutalist pop opera which re-imagines the myth of Narcissus and Echo. Within a hypnagogic musical landscape, the multifarious cast will unpack a wide range of content from the self-as-muse to toxic masculinity to contemporary gamer culture. A theatre experience which melts the boundaries between the real and virtual, and arrives somewhere outside of polarity.

This new work was composed by J. Ashley Miller (KC), directed by Richard Gammon (NYC) and will be performed by Atemporchestra. Made possible by the generosity of the Generative Performing Artist Award from the the Charlotte Street Foundation and an Inspiration Grant from Arts KC.

The three performances will be on Friday, September 23, Saturday and September 24. Doors will open at 8:00 pm and the show will commence promptly at 9:00 pm. No admission after 9:00 pm. Seating is limited. For tickets, please visit picatic.com/echosis

Jane Stoever-UNplaza Art Fair
The UNplaza Art Fair, held this year for the 26th time, gathers about 80 LOCAL artists who offer paintings, purses, sculpture, stained glass, hats, greeting cards, photos, woodworks, jewelry, leather work, and more. The fair benefits the artists, PeaceWorks, and All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. The fair is located on the grounds of All Souls Universalist Church 4501 Walnut, KCMO.

On Saturday, the UNplaza Art Fair will have a free Children’s Art Play table to spark your youngsters’ creativity, a service of Veela Village in KCMO.

Our fair benefits first the artists—to whom we are grateful!—and then PeaceWorks and All Souls, which holds a book fair and offers food and drink concessions in tandem with the fair.
Saturday, Sept. 24, 10 am-6 pm, and Sunday, Sept. 25, noon-5 pm.
