ARTSPEAK RADIO with Norma Cantu, KCAI, Charlotte St. Foundation & The Rabbit Hole

Kansas City Art Institute Event chairs, Kristen Goodman and Marty Peterson discuss ArtPop. ArtPop is a fun, progressive campus party that takes guests via trolley into the studios to see student work and meet the artists, designers and faculty. Select artwork will be for sale with exhibitions on view in every department. Savory appetizers and festive cocktails will be sprinkled throughout and all ArtPop guests will cap off the evening with dinner on the beautiful KCAI campus. The tickets are $75 each and all of the proceeds from this event will go to benefit student scholarships. The festivities start at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

Norma Cantu, Professor of Latina/Latino Studies and English at UMKC, received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and has taught at Texas A&M, the University of California – Santa Barbara, and the University of Texas – San Antonio. Cantu is also Professor Emerita at the University of Texas – San Antonio. She is founder and director of the Society for the Study of Gloria Anzaldúa and co-founder of the group of Latina/o poets, CantoMundo, as well as a member of the Macondo Writers Workshop. As editor of a book series, Rio Grande/Rio Bravo: Borderlands Culture and Tradition, at Texas A&M University Press, and Literatures of the Americas, she promotes the publication of research on borderlands culture.

Patrick Alexander, multidisciplinary artist, Programming & Studio Residency Manager at Charlotte Street Foundation and DJ Fat Sal at Solid- Fi Sound System, discusses the Charlotte Street’s Studio Residency Program.

Pat will break down the application process and provide tips to submitting a strong application. The deadline for applications is May 16th, 2016.
