The cost of $50/person includes a hand-forged stainless steel spoon and an artist made ceramic bowl of your choice filled with delicious soup created by some of KC’s best local chefs including Dan Swinney of Lidia’s KC, Todd Schulte of Genessee Royale, and Craig Howard of Howard’s Cafe and Grocery. Gen Agers Goering is a freelance artist from Kansas City. As the head scenic artist of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City she leads paint crews on the implementation of backdrops as well as the surface treatment of all scenic elements. She is also a sculptor who does maquettes as well as large scale sculpting, specialty painting, custom fabrication, illustration, costuming and puppetry. She studied sculpture and fiber at the Art institute of Kansas City. Gen’s scenic art includes the Lyric Opera’s Tosca, Mikado, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Nixon in China, Flying Dutchman, Turandot, and Tech N9ne K.O. D. Tour.

Patrick Alexander- Charlotte Street Foundation New residents kick off with artist ‘slide slam’

[Kansas City, MO] Charlotte Street Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of 30 new artists to its year-long Studio Residency program and pleased to welcome back five residents from last year. The selection consists of six writers, eight performance-based artists, and 16 visual artists. The 2016/2017 residency period begins September, 2016. Charlotte Street Foundation’s Studio Residency Program provides free studios and rehearsal space in downtown, Kansas City, exhibition and mentorships opportunities, and related support as needed to artists of all disciplines.

To kick off the new studio residency term, the public is invited to meet the resident artists and learn about their work at a free “Studio Residents Slide Slam” Wednesday, September, 14th, 7:00PM at Charlotte Street’s La Esquina Gallery, 1000 W 25th Street. This fun, informal evening will feature 3-minute slide presentations by all 30 incoming studio resident artists—giving a fun introduction to the work, ideas, processes, and personalities of these diverse artists.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE STREET’S STUDIO RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Charlotte Street Foundation’s competitive Studio Residency Program, established in 2004, advance Charlotte Street’s mission of challenging, nurturing, and empowering artists of exception vision by providing free studio space, rehearsal space, and related support for exceptional artists of all disciplines to develop their work, networks, and careers.Components of the program include an annual open studios weekend, exhibition and performance opportunities at Charlotte Street’s Paragraph Gallery & Project Space, studio visits and critiques, a mentorship program pairing residents with established artists and arts professionals from the community, and related career development support.

Studios are located on a previously vacant upper level floor of the Town Pavilion office building in downtown, Kansas City, MO: Town Pavilion, 1100 Walnut Street 6th floor. The studios include dedicated spaces for visual artists and writers, and access to shared rehearsal spaces for performing artists, including a dance stage with Marley floor—for performing artists.

STUDIO RESIDENCY SELECTION PROCESS
Through an annual open call for applications, visual artists, writers, and performing artists (composers/musicians, choreographers/dancers, theatre artists) are invited to apply for year- long Charlotte Street Studio Residencies, with terms beginning each September. First year residents are eligible to apply for a second year in the program, with their applications subjected to the same competitive review process as new applicants.
A rotating selection panel, comprised of regional and national artists and arts professionals, selects the residents through a rigorous, multi-phase application review and panel process. The selection panel for the 2016-17 residencies included: Libby Hanssen, performance critic for The Kansas City Star, KC Studio Magazine, and Metropolis; Erin Zona, artist, printmaking instructor at KCAI; Christopher Leitch, artist, illustrator/writer, Johnson County Library Community Relations Administrator, Lynnette Miranda, Charlotte Street 2016/17 curator-in- residence.

Chico Sierra is a visual and performing artist living in Kansas City, MO. His paintings, photography, and sculpture can be found at various local galleries, including frequently the Mattie Rhodes Center. He is a member of the Latino Writer’s Collective and his forthcoming book of poetry, “Air Becomes Glass” is being published in August 2016 by Spartan Press.
