This week’s artist on Art of the Song is English singer, musician and songwriter Bryan Ferry.
Bryan Ferry, CBE (born 26 September 1945), is an English singer, musician, and songwriter known for his vocal and sartorial style and for his re-working of standards in albums such as These Foolish Things (1973), As Time Goes By (1999) and The Jazz Age (2012). Ferry came to prominence in the early 1970s as lead vocalist and principal songwriter with the band Roxy Music, which enjoyed a highly successful career with three number one albums and ten singles entering the top ten charts in the United Kingdom during the 1970s and ’80s, including “Virginia Plain“, “Street Life” and “Jealous Guy“.
Ferry began his solo career in 1973, while still a member of Roxy Music, which he continues to the present day. His solo hits include “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall“, “Let’s Stick Together” and “Slave to Love“.
When his sales as a solo artist and as a member of Roxy Music are combined, Ferry has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
