The Challenges Facing Democrats: Geoff Gerling, Executive Director, Jackson County Democrats

RadioActive host David Mitchell conducts an in depth interview with Geoff Gerling, Executive Director, Jackson County Democrats

A life-long resident of Jackson County, Geoff became Executive Director in the Spring of 2016 bringing with him many years of experience as both a successful non-profit fundraiser and volunteer on numerous campaigns.  Geoff is a graduate of Raytown High School and a Victor Wilson Scholar at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he majored in Interpersonal Communications and Psychology, served two terms as the Student Government Association President, and was the Legislative Chairman for the Associated Students of the University of Missouri lobbying group. After college, he held a variety of leadership roles as a fundraiser including Director of Development with the Unicorn Theatre and Executive Director of the Midwest Innocence Project in Kansas City.  He was also the Government Affairs Chairman for the South Kansas City Alliance and remains on their Board of Directors.  Geoff has also been a contributing writer to the Martin City Telegraph and guest on local podcasts to discuss public policy and current events.

More than the politics, Geoff feels a commitment to the policies championed by the Democratic Party, in particular, equal rights, health care reform, labor rights, clean energy and environmental protection.  He is also a believer in community engagement and activism, keeping our elected officials “in the know” about the communities they represent and holding them accountable come election time.
