Chaplains Part VII: The Future of Spiritual Care

De-Institutionalizing Spiritual Care

Fewer and fewer Americans are attending religious services, so where do people turn when crisis strikes and big questions emerge? That’s where chaplains come in. They’re not just ministers, rabbis and imams. They also work as spiritual generalists out in the world, ministering to factory workers, soldiers, lawmakers, athletes, inmates, students, patients, and even airline travelers. And they might just be the future of spiritual care.  Trace Haythorn is the executive director of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) and Wendy Cadge is a professor of sociology at Brandeis University.

Jews on Vinyl

Most record collections end up in boxes, put away in basements and attics. Journalist and radio presenter Roger Bennett turned his collection into a book, a website, and even a museum exhibit. It spans the history of Jewish recorded music from the 40s through the 80s. So as we celebrate the final days of Hanukkah this year, we thought we’d take you on a music tour through obscure and delightful Jewish ephemera.  Roger Bennett is the author of And You Shall Know Us by the Trail of Our Vinyl.
