Climate Energy Project

Established in 2007, the Climate & Energy Project seeks to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in America’s Heartland through the ambitious deployment of energy efficiency and renewable energy, in policy and practice.

CEP has received national recognition for a common-sense approach to climate change. Building relationships is fundamental as we create a culture of energy literacy across the Heartland. Our reputation as a group that works with good people regardless of party affiliation enables us to quickly adapt and address pressing energy concerns.

The Climate & Energy Project utilizes a four part approach:
● Connect people, organizations, and ideas
● Facilitate productive, pragmatic, long-term solutions
● Present balanced facts
● Ensure that a wide range of voices are represented

Some of CEP’s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy have developed into solutions-driven projects. These projects, created and managed by CEP, bring together diverse groups to address key areas of interest and action from within CEP’s overall mission.
● Clean Power Plan: CEP is educating Kansans on how EPA’s Clean Power Plan will nationally reduce carbon pollution at power plants. CEP is facilitating the development of a CPP Blueprint highlighting potential compliance pathways and benefits of clean energy in Kansas.
● Clean Energy Business Council: Many businesses are taking advantage of cost savings, reliability, and environmental benefits of clean energy. CEP is creating a CEBC in Kansas for networking and education on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
● Take Charge! Challenge: A nationally-recognized energy completion that brings together local and regional organizations to learn about and take steps toward greater energy efficiency.
● Water + Energy Progress: A statewide initiative that identifies and celebrates innovative farmers and ranchers who are saving water and energy.
● Kansans for Clean Energy. CEP convenes a broad coalition of agriculture, energy, environmental, and faith-based organizations from across the state educating and advocating for clean energy as a means to create jobs, rural prosperity, and a wise use of our natural resources including water and clean air.
