In Ohio in 2011, Gov. John Kasich, facing a budget crisis caused by Wall Street bankers, blames it on public employees and pushes through a bill gutting their collective bargaining rights. Firefighters, professors and teachers, nurses and cops along with their unions and other progressive groups swing into action and get the voters to repeal SB 5 by a two-to-one margin in November. We’ll talk to John McKay who wrote the book called Collective Bargaining and the Battle of Ohio. Then in another chapter of Pioneer Women, we’ll hear about operating giant machines as we talk to a female bulldozer operator. All this on the Heartland Labor Forum, Thursday at 6pm, rebroadcast Friday at 5am.
