Diego Chi – Musician, Writer and Poet

Musician/writer/poet, Diego Chi joins us in the studio to share his poetry, discuss his experiences as a writer and collaboration with a Bosnian poet, and the discovery of his Grandmother’s writing.

Diego Chi is a Panamanian, residing in Kansas City, Missouri. Though he has spent the past few years playing music in a touring band, writing has always been a personal outlet. He describes it as part of his heritage– “my grandmother, Esther Urieta de Real, is a published poet in Panama and encouraged me to ‘write, always,'” says Chi.

His poetry is at times romantic, other times cynical, but always reflecting his love for the various folklore, beliefs, and myths found in cultures around the world. Chi says, “It’s my way of participating in the human narrative. I want to acknowledge the stories that have existed for centuries, the people who came before, and build on the foundations already laid.” Chi is currently working on compiling and publishing his first book of poetry.
