Japan handed Northern Korea to the USSR the day the US dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki. A month later, they gave Southern Korea to the US. The devastating land war segued into a permanent US occupation. Since 1999, Koreans have begun exposing what they remember of the Korean War, which killed 5 million Koreans, half of them women and children. In effect the war has not ended.
