WINGS: Women's International News Gathering Service is an all-woman independent radio production company that produces and distributes news and current affairs programs by and about women around the world.
In November 2016, President Obama awarded a posthumous Medal of Freedom to Elouise Cobell. Cobell met with Obama and agreed to a settlement in 2010. She died in 2011. Payments finally began in 2014. This program is an update of a talk Cobell gave to the National Network of Grantmakers in 2005, giving the story of the struggle. At the time of this talk, she was Executive Director of the Native American Community Development Corporation. Cobell was a cofounder of the Blackfeet National Bank and lead plaintiff in Cobell v. Salazar (aka v. Norton and v. Jewell), a lawsuit against the US government to get proper accounting for individual Indian trusts and the return of stolen assets.
