In the first half-hour, ELIZABETH WALSH is author of a June 15, 2016 article in IC Magazine (Intercontinental Cry Magazine), To Combat Climate Change, Restore Land Ownership to Indigenous Peoples. Elizabeth, a journalist based in New York and Paris, is Editor-in-Chief of The Paris Globalist and will be interning with The New York Times and the United Nations News Centre this year. Elizabeth is joined by JOHN AHNIWANIKA SCHERTOW, Mohawk, award-winning journalist and founder and editor-in-chief of Intercontinental Cry and Director at the Center for World Indigenous Studies, the publisher of IC Magazine (one of the largest indigenous-led new media outlets in Canada). In the second half-hour, MIRYAM YATACO is a Peruvian-born language rights advocate, including Indigenous languages of the world, an expert in bilingualism and a trained sociolinguist. Miryam s work has traditionally focused on language practices marked by exclusion, marginalization and discrimination. Miryam has served as a lecturer at New York University for 20 years and is an Affiliated faculty member to NYU’s Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies.
