Follow the Garbage (ENCORE)

What happens to the stuff we throw out? On this week’s Sprouts, a crew of KBOO news reporters interviews experts around the nation to find out more about trash and its impacts on our neighborhoods and our planet.

Jim Ivancie and Josh Childs got kicked out of the Metro Solid Waste Repository the first time they went, so they piled into Jim’s old pickup truck for a second try. Lisa Loving discuss the origins of trash collection in New York City with Elizabeth Royte, author of Garbage Land: On the Secret Trail of Trash. Katie Arrents and Ryan White speak with Portland’s deconstruction expert, Der Lovett of Lovett Deconstruction. And Dr. Marcus Erickson tells Don Wolfe about the giant plastic sheen in the Atlantic Ocean.
