Forest Genius

Lisa Curran was professor of tropical ecology and director of the Tropical Resources Institute at Yales School of Forestry & Environmental Studies when she won a 5-year “Genius Grant”. Part of her genius was in studying forests intensely on the ground and also from satellites; part was in developing women scientists for a field dominated by men.

At the time of this interview, Curran was professor of tropical ecology and director of the Tropical Resources Institute at Yales School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. She is now (2019) Professor in Environmental Anthropology at Stanford.
