The Future of Classical Music

For Wednesday, February 28, 9:00-11:30 pm CST on KKFI 90.1FM or streaming at www.kkfi.org, The Classical Challenge Presents The Future of Classical Music: Tonia Ko, Andrea Tarrodi, and Anna Thorvaldsdottir.

And part of the future is right next door, because Tonia Ko lives and works in Lawrence KS. Born 1988 in Hong Kong, grew up in Honolulu, studied at the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University and Cornell where she worked with Steven Stucky and Kevin Ernste. She’s both a visual artist and a composer, which for her are not separate buckets in which to explore her creativity but intrinsically related endeavors. Radio being an aural medium, we’ll only get one side of her work on Wednesday.

Andrea Tarrodi was born in 1981 in Sweden of Swedish-Hungarian ancestry, and remains based in Stockholm. She’s studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, the Conservatorio di Musica di Perugia in Italy, and the College of Music in Pitea (Sweden).

Anna Thorvaldsdottir, born 1977 in Iceland, was recently named Composer in Residence at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, after holding the Kravis Emerging Composer Award from the New York Philharmonic. She has a PhD from the University of California in San Diego.
