Giving Yourself Real Love – Women Working To Eliminate Domestic Abuse

G.Y.R.L. is a grassroots group of Women that came about to change the attitudes, learned behaviors and misconceptions that made domestic abuse a hidden but accepted practice in their community. They hold regular meetings where abusers and the abused talk about the experiences. They have found that not all abusers are men and that not all of the abused are women; that not all abuse is a slap or a punch sometimes it is a barrage of soul destroying words and that the issues around “why do you stay” is about physical, emotional and economic control, a trap with many triggers.

G.Y.R.L. is realizing their vision beyond meetings with adults to working with girls and women young and old to learn how to break the cycle and empower them to take control of their lives, say no to unacceptable behavior that leads to abuse and teach those around them that this condition need not continue. They are working to change their community in a positive and lasting way.

Today’s guests are Mela Robinson, Shay Dean and MissE (The Power Broker) of Giving Yourself Real Love in a round table discussion of Domestic Violence and more.
