HahnScratch – A New Blog Looks Behind The Bars and Professor Alex Holsinger on Developing Effective Programs To Reduce Recidivism

HahnScratch – A New Blog Looks Behind The Bars

Sometimes the internet serves up something really interesting and….well human. Such is the case when I came across a blog called HahnScratch, that details life for one person behind bars. It is the creative outlet for Matthew Hahn, a man that has seen some rough times, paid for his mistakes and even thrived despite having a stain on his record. Matthew had luck on his side when he was able to plea bargain a third strike into 13 years and he then went on to make the most of his time in prison.

Host Jeff Humfeld speaks with Matthew Hahn about his time in prison in California and the blog he is writing about his experiences while incarcerated. Matthew spoke to his acceptance of prison as his home and how that approach aided him in making the most out of the education he received there.

Developing Effective Programs To Reduce Recidivism

A lot had changed in programs and approaches to guiding inmates and the formerly incarcerated through programs to help them reenter and thrive in society. It is more than finding a job and a place to live.

Host Margot Patterson to Alex Holsinger, a professor of criminology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, about his research on the risks of recidivism and what those leaving prison need to successfully re-enter society. Professor Holsinger works with state and local agencies to develop effective treatment programs for offenders re-entering society.
