Whitney Rose, Lyal Strickland, David Nace, Billy Joe Shaver, Lauren Anderson

The New York Times gushes “A sultry country classicist with a tremble in her voice, Whitney Rose is partial to the magisterial gestures of the 1950s and 1960s.  And so for her stately second album, “Heartbreaker of the Year” (Cameron House), she enlisted the Mavericks, keepers of that era’s flame, for backup duty, and its frontman, the silky Raul Malo, as producer.”  Whitney Rose is making her Kansas City debut August 2 at Knuckleheads.  Americana stand outs The Honeycutters open for Ms. Rose.

Buffalo, Missouri native Lyal Strickland doubles as a working farmer so when he writes about surviving in modern-day America, he’s speaking from experience. He’s also been writing songs since high school, when he played assemblies and sold homemade CD’s for souvenirs. 2014’s Balanced on Barbed Wire, played extensively on KKFI,  was his sixth album, but the first to get national distribution and acclaim.  Lyal has won raves like “Pure Americana, melodic and warm; lyrically thoughtful and full of feel” (Popdose) and music with “Universal resonance…rural grit and grace” (No Depression). Now comes Preservation, combining Strickland’s signature gritty singing and sharp observations with some of his most personal work to date. Preservation’s Kansas City CD Release Party is August 5 at Knuckleheads.

David Nace’s Birthday Bash is Saturday at Knuckleheads and this week’s Tasty Brew features music from The Nace Brothers‘ most recent gem, Space in Time.  A regional favorite for over 30 years, this country rock band never disappoints.

Oh and a national treasure and true outlaw will be in town this week…Mr. Billy Joe “Where Do you Want It’ Shaver.  Diana Linn will spin some tunes by a number of artists most heavily influenced by Billy Joe and from the man himself.  Classic Country Music icon and satellite radio host Dallas Wayne opens for Billy Joe.

Kansas City’s award winning Lauren Anderson will be Diana Linn’s live in studio guest to bring us up to date on her musical journey!
