Illegal Gains Or Private Property, What is Asset Forfieture? and CSI Kansas City, A KCPD CSI Gives Us The Skinny

Many people don’t know that the police routinely confiscate, cars, cash, houses and more when they arrest people for crimes and that they sell that property to fund their department. Host Robin Martinez talks about the legal aspects of Asset Forfeiture with Attorney Dan Viets of Missouri NORMAL and Eapan Thampy, Executive Director of American’s for Forfeiture Reform will bring us up to speed on the legislative front. Do these seizures of personal property encourage false arrests? If an arrest does not result in a conviction does the accused get their property back? How do Missouri Police Departments get around a state law that puts restrictions on asset seizures?

Robin Martinez is Senior Partner at Matinez, Madrigal and Machicow and a member of the local chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

CSI Miami, Las Vegas, New York and similar TV programs have created an image of what a CSI tech is and does. Host Allie Bush speaks with Supervisor Melanie Fields, of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department about the realities of crime scene investigation. What does a CSI do when they arrive at the scene of a crime? Will the new police lab make analysis of crime scene evidence more accurate and quicker?
