Barry Grissom Former US Attorney In Kansas

Barry Grissom retired as US Attorney for the district of Kansas in 2016 and in April of 2018, he founded the Grissom Law Group which additionally focused on public policy advocacy. In 2018, he became general counsel and in charge of global affairs for Electrum Partners, LLC, a venture management company specializing in medical and adult legal use cannabis industries.

Host Teresa Wilke will talk with Mr Grissom about his experience concerning the war on drugs and mass incarceration. Barry will provide insight on imminent criminal justice reform efforts. As Barry says, “when we seek to incarcerate, we should do it for the right reasons in a right way – a manner that is helpful to society.”

The Criminal Justice Task Force will meet Monday, February 4th from 6:45 to 8:45 pm at the Church of the Good Shepard, 4947 Chouteau Drive, KCMO. The Criminal Justice Task Force mission is to lobby the Missouri State Legislature for sentencing laws that are fair and basic human rights of those that are incarcerated. The Kansas City Chapter of Missourian’s For Alternatives to the Death Penalty will meet Tuesday, February 5th from 6:30 to 8pm at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut, KCMO. Elyse Max, Executive Assistant for MADP will give an update on the Marvin Rice case in which a judge imposed the death penalty in Marvin’s case even though 11 of 12 jurors voted for life without parole. The MO Supreme Court should be ruling on Marvin’s case soon.

Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters will have their monthly meeting Saturday, February 9th from noon to 2pm at the Waldo Branch Library, 201 East 75th Street, KCMO If you have a loved one that is incarcerated and need advice and support MISD has members that may be able to help.

The Green Party of Kansas City, Missouri will hold their General Membership Meeting, Thursday, February 7th , 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM at Westport Presbyterian Church, 201 Westport Road, KCMO. Social time and new member orientation begins at 7 PM. There will be light refreshments compliments of the Membership Committee, All are ages welcome.
