KC Black Panthers in Tanzania – Pete and Charlotte O’Neal Living A Revolutionary Life

Pete O’Neal was leader of the Kansas City Chapter in the 1960s and into the 1970’s. His clashes with authority, whether it was the police or religious leaders led to his being charged and convicted of Fedral a gun violation. Instead of going to jail for a unfair prosecution Pete and his wife Charlotte fled the United States. With the help of overseas supports they went to Sweden until they could finally get to Algiers to join other exiled Black Panthers. After almost two years in algiers They Moved to Tanzania eventually settling near Arusha at the foot of the mountain range that was home to Mount Kilimanjaro.

In tonight’s edition of the Thursday Night Special Charlotte O’Neal tells of homesteading, community building, poetry, music and love. Their’s is truly a story of living the revolutionary principles of love they were committed to here in Kansas City. Charlotte has become well know across the world for her artistic creativity and she will tell us about the Community Center and Leadership Training Shool for orphans and in need youth that she and Pete have built.

Also on Tonight’s show a conversation with Steve Penn about the effort to get President Obama to pardon Pete so he can travel. Steve will tell us about his book Case For A Pardon and about an organizing meeting for the petition to President Obama.
