KCPD Chief Darryl Forte Tells Us About The Dip In The Murde Rate and Missourians For Alternative To The Death Penalty – MADP

Today we deal with two sides of the same coin and the coin has the Grim Reaper on both sides.

Chief Darryl Forte Will Tell Us What Is Behind KCMO’s Falling Murder Rate

The Murder rate in KCMO has been bouncing up and down for years but has been over 100 for quite a few years. That is why 77 murders in 2014 has been hailed as good news. What has been troubling in the past year is the number of children that have been killed in drive by shootings and from physical abuse. While this drop has been dramatic even out guest will say we have a long way to go.

Host Melvin Merritt will talk with KCMO Police Chief Darryl Forte about the reasons around the drop in murders and what we might expect for 2015. Does other crime go up when murders go down? What are the plans for reducing the rate even further and sustaining that lower rate? If you want to know what the Chief is thinking about check out his blog at http://kcpdchief.blogspot.com/

Will A bill To Abolish The Death Penalty In Missouri Pass The Legislature?

Missouri has been on a pace of 1 execution a month for almost a year now, with a couple of executions delayed by appeals to the Supreme court. They have also been right in the middle of the experimentation with new drugs and the secrecy around their source. The DOC has even been accused of breaking state law when they went to Oklahoma to buy the drugs they needed for some of their executions. A bill to call a moratorium on the Death Penalty has been introduced in to the Missouri Legislature in the hopes that they will study the costs and other issues surrounding its application here

Missourians For Alternatives To The Death Penalty (MADP) have been around for a long time and some name changes along the way. Host Craig Lubow talks with Staci Pratt, the new director/coordinator for MADP about the bill, the pace of executions and more. You can find out more about then at http://madpmo.org/ and on Face Book.
