Laurie Lewis

Our guests next week on Art of the Song are Laurie Lewis and her sideman partner, Tom Rozum. Laurie Lewis is a songwriter, fiddler, vocalist, teacher and producer. She almost quit music altogether the year she graduated early from Berkeley High School and moved out of the house. After five or six years of classical violin lessons, she was ready to move on to something new, something that wouldn’t ask her to read music.
Inspired by the artists she heard down the street at the Berkeley Folk Festival… Doc Watson, Jean Ritchie, Reverend Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt… She developed a keen interest in folk music and learned to play it by ear. We spoke with Laurie and Tom in our Albuquerque studio.
