Local Showcase welcomes Kelley Hunt and Kelly Hunt!

Join Diana Linn, Host of KKFI’s “The Tasty Brew Music Radio Show”, for a one of a kind musical collaboration between KELLEY Hunt — known as the “Queen of the 88s” and Kansas City’s “Banjo Kelly”, KELLY Hunt! Diana Linn says “Ever since I met Kelly Hunt when she first moved to Kansas City from Memphis, Tennessee…I’ve wanted to get these two musical ladies together! And now the 100,000 watt blowtorch of creative insanity that is KKFI is giving me the platform to make this happen!”

In some ways Roots R&B/Americana singer/songwriter/piano player/guitarist KELLEY HUNT is a rarity and a challenge to the music industry’s penchant for easy artist definitions — a woman who has muscled her way onto the scene on her own terms with an identity steeped in blues/roots/gospel traditions and a refreshing originality. She makes music with it’s righteous roots intact that also crosses boundaries, has an open-minded, exploratory attitude and takes on social and political issues. Together with a commanding, passionate stage presence and superior vocal, keyboard and songwriting skills she has earned the respect of critics and fans across North America and Europe.

KELLY HUNT is a singer-songwriter of Americana/Roots music. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, she now calls Kansas City home. Kelly’s primary instrument is her voice, which rings out with confidence and clarity of someone who has been singing all her life. Accompanied by her 1920s tenor banjo, Kelly’s songs meld traditions of folk, blues, classic country, and old-time music for a sound that is all her own. Her songwriting springs from a place of rich imagery and bespeaks a genuine love of storytelling. Kelly is currently recording her first album (featuring multi-instrumentalist Stas’ Heaney), which she hopes to make available very very soon.
