Music of Japan

Dianne Daugherty returns to host another fascinating radio show about the music of Japan.   In the Oct 5th show, she’ll provide insights and information about the performers and music that will be featured at the Japan Festival hosted at Johnson County Community College on Oct 11.  The festival will highlight traditional music of the koto and shakuhachi,  the ancient comedy of Kyogen, various forms of folk music, dance, Taiko drums and J-Pop.  Through this musical journey, listeners will hear a wide variety of musical styles and learn about their cultural significance. Other points of interest featured during the show will include the popularity of Okinawan music and performers; the history and longevity of Enka songs along with Min’yo and other folk music of Japan.  As a special treat, there will be a tribute to Joe Hisaishi highlighting his contributions to anime and movie scores. (He composed most of the music for Miyazaki Hayao – Studio Ghibli films.) Keiko Okada-Brown and Naoko Nadtochiy will once again join Dianne as her guests to provide their interesting perspectives. There may be an opportunity to call in during the show and share your own thoughts, impressions or questions, too.
