M and V Do Foolkiller Folk

Today in recognition of the recent current events, we’re opening with the Welsh hymn ‘Ebeneser (Dyma Gariad Fel Y Moroedd)(Ton Potel)’ (translation: love as vast as the ocean (a song about God’s love for mankind) by Lleuwen Steffan and ending with the Youngbloods ‘Get Together’

In between you’ll hear an eclectic collection of national and international artists, most of whom we heard at the Feb, 2016 Folk Alliance Conference and a couple of artists/songs we just feel like playing:  Maja & David (Danish), Maarja Nuut (Estonian (and our favorite Folk Alliance Find), Bjaran (Swedish), Michael Doucet & Todd Duke (Cajun), Lowell Levinger, Bill Frisell, Ennis Sisters (Newfoundland)*, Lowest Pair, Dovetail Trio (England), Appleseed Collective, and Realta (Irish).

  • The story behind the Ennis Sisters song ‘Out From St Leonard’: This song is about the 1960s Newfoundland forced resettlement from the outer villages to centralize the population into growth areas. In response, some people towed their houses to the shoreline, raised/floated them on empty 60 gallon oil barrels and towed them across the bay.
