Net Safety: Gender and the Internet

From a panel titled Gender and the Internet, held at the Internet Governance Forum in Brazil in November 2015, speakers describe harmful and helpful uses of the internet and a range of preferred lenses and remedies.

Jan Moolman lives in South Africa and works in the Women’s Rights Programme of the Association for Progressive Communications. Bishakha Datta is a filmmaker in India and heads Point of View ” an NGO working in gender, sexuality and women’s rights. Gabrielle Guillemin is a legal officer at Article 19, which defends free speech in digital communication. Hibah Hussain is a public policy analyst at Google; she forges partnerships with women’s NGOs around digital security. Ellen Strickland is Community Programme Director for InternetNZ, which helped introduce a new law against internet violence.
