Not Prisons: Alternatives To Incarcerating Women

Twenty years after Australia opened its first private women’s prison, activist and lawyer Amanda George told Women on the Line that women in prison are almost all locked up for drug-related crimes, and almost all have suffered traumatic abuse. Rachel Herzing discussed her work with projects training communities and individuals to take responsibility for stopping and preventing violence. [Updated from WINGS #06-10.]
