Each week the Pacifica Radio Archives chooses a program "From the Vault" of broadcasts in a half-hour program.
On this week’s From The Vault, we reach back into our archives and present The July 8, 1996 We The People radio program hosted by California Governor Jerry Brown, Jr. His special guest was author, playwright and political historian Gore Vidal.
The We The People radio show began on Pacifica Radio in early 1994 and ran until 1997. Governor Brown retired the radio series to begin what was to be a successful run for Mayor of Oakland California in 1998. Gore Vidal was at the top of his game in 1996, commenting on the current state of media consolidation, the whittling down of our civil liberties as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights as well as some insightful stories of political figures and events throughout history.
