Polar Bears

Polar bears feast on the remains of bowhead whales on the edge of the Beaufort Sea while cultural anthropologist Richard Nelson describes their actions, explains their lives, humans’ historical relationship to polar bears, and their chances for survival.

This is a rebroadcast of a Sprouts edition that featured an environmental show called Encounters that brought the sounds of the northern wild to the radio. It no longer exists and was produced at KCAW in Sitka, Alaska, hosted and narrated by Nelson, nationally known nature writer and cultural anthropologist.
