Pulled Over – A Study of KCMO Traffic Stops and G.Y.R.L. Is Stepping Up and Out

Pulled Over – A Study of KCMO Traffic Stops

Did you know there are two different types of traffic stops? Many of us have experienced the bad driving stop, for speeding or other infraction that result in a citation and sent on our way. The other type of stop is the Investigative stop, where a actual or bogus traffic infraction is used as a pretext to stop a motorist to look for drugs or weapons. It is the second type of stop that has many calling racism on the part of the police.

Host Teresa Wilke talks with Charles Epp a professor at Kansas University about a study of KCMO Police traffic stops that resulted in the book Pulled Over authored by Epps, Steven Maynard Moody and David Hale Markle with financial support of the National Science Foundation.

If you would like to order Pulled Over you can get it on Amazon or check your local library or local bookstore. You can find out more about Professor Epp at https://kupa.ku.edu/charles-epp

Give Yourself Real Love Is Stepping Up and Out

G.Y.R.L. has been holding “Hands Off, Domestic Violence Forums” for a number of years. These forums allow victims and abusers to tell their stories, helping all get a clearer picture of the problems and the role of the family, church and community is exposed. These efforts are supported by the KCMO Police Department and other groups in the community.

Host Jeff Humfeld will be talking with Ms E and others from G.Y.R.L. about their new Girls Camp for girls 12-18 and their Princess Camp for girls 5-11. These camps are designed to teach girls attributes such as, friendship, loyalty, compassion and self worth. We will also be looking to the future and their search for a home to house their programs and their Internet Radio Show Girl Talk set to launch in the New Year.
