Take Two: “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” (R)

Comedienne Melissa McCarthy makes a rare dramatic turn as famed author Lee Israel in the intriguing story, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” The screenplay is based on Israel’s book that details her time as a forger. Although she’d had success as a biographer, Israel took to forging letters from other authors such as Dorothy Parker and Noel Coward to make ends meet. Her ability to mimic their voices allowed her to succeed for some time. British actor Richard E. Grant plays Israel’s partner in crime, Jack Hock. The film was directed by Marielle Heller (“Diary of a Teenage Girl”).
